Question of the Day - Winning Edition

(Gotta get this out front. - promoted by mirrim)

Ok, I'll admit it.  I've been sucked into the swirling cesspool of TV watchers that must see American Idol.  I've managed to stay away from Gladiators (sometimes, the Bread and Circuses routine is just too eerily on point), and I only watch ANTM from my computer chair 'cuz the wife and daughter are watching it (although a big shout out to Whitney, even if she's vapid, for winning as an alleged "plus-size").  I've always been a fan or Survivor, and I really enjoyed it this year as more and more people got injured.

So, it is all about AmIdol (I may have picked this because it is one of Blogmom's not-so-secret vices).  Follow me below Ryan Seacrest's fauxhawk to get the obvious question.

Obama In Oregon. Hillary In Limbo

by: Arthur Gilroy

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The man can draw a CROWD!!!

He says some things, too.

Like this:

"We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK," Obama said.

"That's not leadership. That's not going to happen," he added.

HOO boy!!!

He's feelin' it now!!!

We are at a crux point.

A change point.

Is it time for a quantum leap in the American consciousness? One that will NOT be supported by large portions of the MSM?

We shall soon see.

That's some plain talk  he's talking.

As plain as that of Reverend Wright, although phrased more gently in the interests of broader consumption and easier digestion.

The last time I heard anything real from him on that level was about eight months ago (Longer?) when he addressed a group of Detroit auto execs and took them to task for not building better automobiles instead of whining about increased competition from Japan and Korea.

I thought then that such direct talk would finish his campaign.

I was wrong. It did not.

Read on for my take on how to get him the hell into the White House.

MSM Fumbles Iran Narrative Again

by: Jeff Huber

Mon May 19, 2008 at 05:40:12 AM PDT

The story that most likely would have knocked the bottom out of the Bush administration's case for war with Iran occurred more than a week ago, and the mainstream media still hasn't reported it.

While flipping through channels on the evening of May 12, I accidentally heard Keith Olberman referencing a story from the LA Times that told how the U.S. military was all ready to show the American press enclave in Iraq the big cache of Iranian arms that Iraqi security forces had captured from Moqtada al Sadr's Mahdi Army during the recent fighting in the Iraqi cities of Basra and Karbala.

The arms, in theory, would have proven once and for all the administration's assertions that Iran is arming Sadr's Shiite militiamen.  There was just one glitch; when U.S. inspectors went in to inspect the captured arms, they said that none of the weapons or ammunition could be reliably traced to Iran.

Olberman ended the segment with "You do realize they are making this up about Iran?"  Yes, I do, Keith, I thought.  I realized it two years and change ago.

Stop Bush's Campaign to Bomb Iran

copyright © 2008 Betsy L. Angert.  BeThink.org

Days ago, United States Commander-In-Chief, George W. Bush reminded us of the need to remain vigilant.  He admonished anyone who might think to talk with those who politically, philosophically, or perhaps physically have the potential to oppose "us."  The President of the world's superpower 'wisely' proclaimed ""Some seem to believe we should negotiate with the terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along."  America's leader addressed Israeli lawmakers and said, "We have heard this foolish delusion before.  As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: 'Lord, if only I could have talked to Hitler, all of this might have been avoided.'  We have an obligation to call this what it is -- the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history."  As a protective parent might  alert an easily frighten child, the Mister Bush forewarns his citizens.  "Do not speak to strangers."

Sexism vs. Misogyny vs. Racism In This Primary Season? Sexism By A Cant Hair.

by: Arthur Gilroy

Sun May 18, 2008 at 07:11:53 AM PDT

So Booman writes a post on his blog titled Sexism and Misogyny that tries to parse the difference between the two as some sort of apologia for Obama's current position. However, he ends his post with the statement "I see no convincing evidence that sexism played a big part, and certainly not a decisive part in her losses."

Hmmmm...

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I beg to differ.

First of all...as I point out below...she has NOT "lost". The contest is damned near a tie. The media...and the leftiness blogs which are now simply adjunct media when you get right down to it...have declared her a loser. The numbers say otherwise, as do the demographics of those numbers.

"According to the rules of the Dem Party?" I suppose so. It depends on which rules and how valid they are, really. Do y'all truly think that those "rules" were set up in some sort of intelligent, well reasoned, far-seeing manner? Why would one think that given the evidence of political maneuvering over centuries and centuries of human experience? These are POLITICIANS. The "rules"  were set up by hustlers who were shilling for their own interests, and you know what kind of wisdom THAT act generally carries.

None.

Rule by hustle.

May the best hustler win.

All along the way.

Secondly...awww, just read on.

Just read on.

Playing The Nazi Card

by: ed_encho

Fri May 16, 2008 at 16:45:09 PM PDT

"See in my line of work you got to keep repeating things over and over and over again for the truth to sink in, to kind of catapult the propaganda."

- George W. Bush

"How fortunate for leaders that men do not think."

- Adolph Hitler

In an incredible escalation of rhetoric for even the desperate neocon fascist Bushreich the invocation of the shameless accusation that Barack Obama and Democrats are akin to Nazi appeasers in front of the drooling assembly of Likudnik war freaks gathered together in The Knesset to festively celebrate the 60th anniversary of Zionist oppression was a thing of ugliness and awe. The Bush-Cheney-Neocon Axis of Evil have now taken Jew baiting to the apex of audacity and in signature fashion for this bund of criminals who have used 9/11 as an opportunity for their evil little coup d'etat to hijack America in order to implement a domestic police state and wage the war of civilizations against those evil Muslims. Yet another of those timely Osama bin Laden tapes just happened to follow in the wake of Bush's sulfuric vapor trail and he even had his old gray beard back this time.

The Elections and Ethics; Gas and Gratification

by: Betsy L. Angert

Will A Gas Tax Holiday Help?

copyright © 2008 Betsy L. Angert.  BeThink.org

Americans speak of the divide within this country.  Most accept the labels.  We are a nation of Red states and Blue regions.  People define themselves as Conservatives or Liberals.  West Virginian primary election voters, who were asked, reinforced the notion in this nation we are not unified.  One fifth of those polled stated, skin color influenced their decision.  Former Senator John Edwards often expresses his distress for what he sees as "Two Americas." The one time Presidential candidate reminds us of why the common folks clamor.  The rich get richer while the poor become more impoverished.  For some of those who fight to endure, a "gas tax holiday" is thought essential.  Others believe such a measure will negatively effect the infrastructure and the environment.  In Grand Rapids, Michigan on May 14, 2008 a Black man and a white man stood on a stage together united and equal.  Some, in this splintered nation of ours, thought this was a sign.  Perhaps, Americans would finally come together as one.

Clinton Scores West Virginia Landslide!

The bitter and recalcitrant Hillary Rodham-Clinton's whopping 43 percent win in the West Virginia primary despite the category 5 spin doesn't mean jack fucking shit. Consider that the mountaineer state's demographics, the sort of folks that Clinton aide Mickey Kantor so eloquently refers to as "white niggers" make the longtime GOP red state base denizens of peckerwood nation down south of the Mason-Dixon Line look like a fucking master race by comparison. These hard-workin' (when they are able to even find jobs that haven't been offshored) white voters are as easily duped with allegations of secret Muslim conspiracies, anti-Americanism by a 'darky' who refuses to wear a flag pin or hold his hand over his heart during the ridiculous fucking Stalinist pledge of allegiance and actually gives a rat's ass about economic conditions in such capitalist desecrated shit holes like West Virginia rather than engage in laying stink bait about guns, gays and God.

Question of the Day: Animal, Vegetable or Mineral?

by: puzzled

Wed May 14, 2008 at 11:36:40 AM PDT

( - promoted by Curmudgette)

There has been so much death and destruction in the news this week: the Myanmar government continues to stymie outside efforts for recovery from the cyclone, China is struck by a gigantic earthquake, tornadoes cut a swath of destruction across the United States, and here in my own state of Florida, there are over 108 wildfires burning at last count.

You've got to wonder if there is a Mother Earth, because if there is, she seems to be royally pissed at the humans who seem intent on messing up her tidy abode.  Perhaps this latest run of natural disasters is her way of getting revenge on the clueless homo sapiens who seem to think they can destroy the habitats of other species with impunity.

Most of the world (with the notable exception of the Bush administration) seems to be concerned with the effect we are having on climate change and working toward ways to ameliorate it, but few of us think about extinction of species and decreasing biodiversity on a regular basis.

Although the rate of extinction has increased, at an unprecedented rate, due to climate change, habitat loss and other man-made insults, the good news is that new life forms are still being discovered.

Radio Free Pentagon

by: Jeff Huber

Wed May 14, 2008 at 06:07:26 AM PDT

Donald Rumsfeld's short lived Office of Strategic Influence spawned a termites' nest of truth ministries; the Office of Special Plans, the Information Operations Task Force and the Iran Directorate are just a few of the ones we know about.

The Pentagon's latest information warfare effort involves a network of foreign language web sites that promote U.S. interests.  I doubt whether anyone at the Pentagon seriously thinks foreign language web sites are going to win over any foreign hearts and minds, but foreign language web sites could be neat placea to plant covert propaganda that can migrate into the domestic press without anyone knowing it originated at the Pentagon, huh?
